ON MOVE-IN-DAY YOU SHOULD...
1. TAKE PICTURES OF EVERYTHING
This is one of the most important things to do when you first move in to your property. By having photographs of the property when you moved in, you can save yourself issues with getting your deposit back and more later down the line because you can prove the state you found the apartment in. You cannot be blamed for imperfections that were existing in the property before you moved in.
2. TAKE INVENTORY
You may have a list of furniture you're supposed to have provided by your agents/landlord, or from the property advertisement. If you have this list, check all the appropriate furniture is present.
Regardless of whether you have a formal list, document yourself exactly what furniture you have, and check what condition it is in. If something is broken or faulty, you will want to know now to have it rectified as soon as possible.
Test appliances, heating, water, lighting, as well as having a good look at the furniture to check that everything is in proper working condition!
3. TAKE A READING OF ANY METERS
It is really important to take a reading of water meters, gas meters, and electricity meters as soon as you arrive. This helps to ensure you will only be billed for your usage, as you can prove exactly what the usage was when you arrived. Take a photo of the meters, so you have photo evidence of the reading!
You may also need to send readings to your water, gas, or electricity company, so set up accounts with this providers if you have not already done this, and send them the information from your move in day.
4. CHECK YOU HAVE ALL THE CORRECT KEYS
This sounds silly but plenty of people find not everyone has all the necessary keys for the house, or some people might not have a key for a bedroom lock whilst others will. Be aware of this now so you can immediately report if there is an issue with the keys.
AFTER ALL THIS IS DONE, YOU CAN BEGIN UNPACKING AND EXPLORING YOUR AREA. WE HOPE YOU ENJOY YOUR NEW HOME!
